Buy 2oz Gunpowder Plot Medal Tribute Intaglio Silver Rounds Online
SD Bullion is proud to have another intricate design from Denver’s Intaglio Mint. This Round is 2 oz of .999 fine silver and feature two unique designs that differ from all of their other rounds. This round has a snake, hebrew writing and symbolism all beautifully struck on its obverse, along with a custom reverse different from any Intaglio round minted before.
The Intaglio Mint is known for its high quality rounds, and skilled artisans. They pay tribute to the discovery of the famous gunpowder plot in England. On Nov. 4th 1605, Guy Fawkes and a group of Catholic men, planned to set alight a huge stash of gunpowder hidden under parliament in an attempt to assassinate King James, who was Protestant. Guy Fawkes was unsuccessful and was arrested near the stash with matches in his pocket. This assaination attempt was lead by a group of Catholics trying to stop the persecution of their faith under King James. In an interesting turn of fate, before Fawkes was hanged for his crimes, he fell from the scaffold that he was to be hanged from and broke his neck, which killed him.
The obverse of the round portrays a snake surrounded by flowers, and inscription that translates to “He, who concealed himself, is detected. By order of the Senate.''
On the reverse of the round, a tetragrammaton is showcased (God in Hebrew). This is encircled by a circle of thorns. Also, the hebrew writing around the thorns translates to “You, the keeper of James, have not slept”.
