2 oz Buffalo Silver Round - Random Mintage
The Golden State Mint first released the Buffalo Silver Round in 1981. It contains 2 Troy oz of 99.9% fine silver.
As the moniker suggests, the rounds reproduce the design of the Gold Buffalo Coin, which was originally inspired by James Earl Fraser’s Indian Head Nickel Coin.
Silver rounds tend to be a more affordable way to increase silver holdings if compared to sovereign silver coins. Silver rounds hold neither face value nor legal tender status, and as privately made products, they enjoy complete freedom of creation for their designs.

The Design
On one side, the round features the Native American Chief through a right profile bust that combines traces from Native American tribes: the Big Tree, the Iron Tail, and the Two Moons. The only inscription accompanying the image is “LIBERTY” in front of the Native’s forehead.
On the other side, the giant, upstanding American Bison covers the whole surface, resembling a Buffalo.
The Golden State Mint’s name arches on top, while the inscription “2 TROY OZ .9999 SILVER” beneath the image refers to the round’s weight, fineness, and metal content.
These rounds may be of varied mintage and may contain minor contact marks and signs of wear and tear.
