The "Deuce Four" in the name "Silver Deuce Four Skull Type II Silver Round" relates to the U.S. Army's 24th Infantry Regiment. From 1869 to 1951, and again from 1995 to 2006, this infantry regiment was active, consisting mainly of African-American soldiers. The regiment is noteworthy for serving their nation when black troops were treated as "second class" soldiers. The 24th Infantry served all over the Western United States in 1898. Their tasks included garrisoning frontier posts, fighting against American Indians, protecting roadways from bandits, and guarding the U.S.-Mexico border. The 24th Infantry fought as a separate regiment in the South Pacific Theater during World War II. The regiment also served from 2004 to 2005 in the Iraq War and was decorated for its service, with a total of 181 Purple Hearts received by its soldiers.

This silver round is minted by the Intaglio Mint from Denver, CO using one troy ounce of .999 fine silver; a nice addition to our silver bullion category.

The obverse of this Silver Round features a skull in the middle with “III” surrounded by 13 stars. Below the skull are two AR-15 rifles facing away from each other. Below these rifles is the snake from the “Don’t Tread On Me” flag along with the words “EST. 1776. '' Around the edges are the words “WHEN INJUSTICE BECOMES LAW RESISTANCE BECOMES DUTY” with another ring of 13 stars just on the inside of that motto.

The reverse side features the Intaglio Mint logo -- a Romanesque pillar on a textured background with “INTAGLIO” just above the pillar and “MINT” just below it. Around this is “.999 FINE SILVER” & “ONE TROY OUNCE” imprinted around the edges. Note, reverses vary from year to year, and a specfic year cannot be guaranteed and may not match the product image.
