The Design

The obverse displays the company’s logo by depicting the Scottsdale Mint Crowned Lion in the center, surrounded by several circles of different patterns.

The second circle informs the round’s weight, purity, metal content, and the mint’s name with the engravings “ONE TROY OZ 9999 SILVER” and “SCOTTSDALE MINT.” 

The inscriptions on the outer rim reproduce the biblical verse of Luke 2:14: “GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST AND ON EARTH PEACE, GOOD WILL TOWARD MEN.”

The reverse design features the Nativity scene, that named the round.

Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus, laid in the manger, are in the spotlight. The gifts received lay in front of them. Livestock, stars, and palm branches work as an intricate backdrop. The Bethlehem Star shines above them all.

The inscriptions in Greek that arches over the image correspond to a hymn that describes Jesus’s birth. In English, they read: “Today, the virgin bears Him who is transcendent, and the earth presents the cave to Him who is beyond reach. Angels, along with shepherds, glorify Him. The Magi make their way to Him by a star. For a new child has been born for us, the God before all ages.”
