The Design

The obverse showcases the pipe organ from the Golden Hall of the Augsburg Town Hall. The building used to be famous for its paintings, but the room went down during World War II, and its reconstruction in 1996 became a national symbol. 

Friedrich Ladegast originally designed the pipe organ in 1872. Relocations afterward led to innovations, but the image imprinted on the Austrian coin takes after its original traces.

The words inscribed “Republik Oesterreih” refers to the Austrian nation. Beneath the image, inscriptions refer to the coin’s weight, purity, metal content, face value, and year of issuance.

The reverse design has eight classic orchestral instruments, including violins, a cello, the Viennese horn, a bassoon, and a harp.
