The Design

Thomas Jefferson, one of the Founding Fathers, is depicted on the obverse side. Along with his bust, the series name “AMERICAN VIRTUES” and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are inscribed on top while his name, “THOMAS JEFFERSON,” and the year of issuance in Roman numbers “MMXXI” are at the bottom. Information about the mintmark, weight, metal content, and purity is micro-engraved as “CFL 3 oz Ag .999.”

Jefferson’s famous quote, “NEVER TROUBLE ANOTHER FOR WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOURSELF,” is inscribed on the outer rim.

The reverse design, encircled by stars, displays a modern depiction of Lady Liberty walking the road of independence, carrying a torch and an olive branch, accompanied by a flying eagle.

A pre-9/11 image of the New York skyline lies on the lower left.
