The Buffalo Nickel from the United States Mint was first issued in 1913 and continued in circulation with one of the nations greatest designs until 1938. In 1911, the drive of the U.S. government to revamp all of the circulation coin designs continued with the decision to redesign the circulation nickel's look. At this point in time, the vast majority of coins in circulation in the US had designs by Charles E. Barber, the U.S. Mint Chief Engraver. These designs were created around the year 1892 in most cases and centered around varied designs of Lady Liberty.
These 2 oz Buffalo Silver Rounds are minted by the Intaglio Mint of Denver, CO and will contain two troy ounces of .999 fine silver bullion. Quantities of 10 would fit in the Generic Round Tubes.
The obverse of this Silver Round will feature a Native American with feathers on his head looking to the right. Minted to the right of him is the word “LIBERTY”. Below his head is the year 1913 to commemorate the first year the Buffalo Nickels were minted. Below the year will be the letter “F” to honor the designer of the original Buffalo Nickel, James Earl Fraser.
The reverse of these silver rounds will feature its namesake, the American Buffalo. The Buffalo will be accompanied by the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” at the top of the round, and just below that is “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, which was the official US motto from 1782-1956. Below the Buffalo will be the words “TWO TROY OUNCES” & “.999 FINE SILVER”.
