1909-D PCGS MS-63 $5 Indian Half Eagle Gold Coin
The US Mint manufactured Indian Half Eagles containing .2419 oz of gold bullion and an alluring design featured by Augustus Saint-Guadens from 1908 to 1929.
These coins were issued through Denver, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and San Francisco branches to meet internal demand and serve as the official $5 in the US.
Those minted in Denver carry the “D” mintmark on the reverse side.
The higher prices of gold in the 1930s resulted in a massive hoarding and meltdown movement of gold coins. Several $5 Indian Half Eagles and other Pre-1933 Gold Coins disappeared, seriously affecting their availability in the bullion market.
Today, SD Bullion offers 1909-D $5 Indian Half Eagle Gold coins, sealed and certified by PCGS as MS-63 coins.

The Design
The obverse portrays a Native American Chief looking left, encircled by thirteen five-pointed starts. The engravings on this side correspond to the word “LIBERTY” and the year of issuance.
The reverse showcases the majestic eagle perched on an arrow, which is wrapped around an olive branch.
In addition to the “D” mint mark, the inscriptions “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and “FIVE DOLLARS” complete the image.
A PCGS MS-63 Coin
PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service appraises and grades coins based on the Sheldon Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70 according to their condition.
MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin produced in a business sample format. Grade 63 indicates that the coin may present marks and minor visible hairlines.
