PCGS MS-61 $20 St. Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coin No Motto (Random Year)

From 1907 to 1932, the St. Gaudens Double Eagle left an indelible mark on American coinage history.

Crafted by the esteemed artist Augustus Saint-Gaudens, these coins boast .9675 Troy oz of gold content and a $20 face value.

The beloved Lady Liberty design on the obverse was later adapted for modern American Gold Eagle bullion coins in 1986.

Initially without the traditional American motto "In God We Trust," it was incorporated into the reverse design in mid-1908.

Today, at SD Bullion, you can obtain PCGS-certified MS-61 examples of the $20 St. Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coins No Motto, spanning mintages from 1907 to 1908.

The Design

Handpicked by President Theodore Roosevelt to redesign American coinage at the turn of the 20th century, Augustus Saint-Gaudens crafted what many consider the most exquisite coin in US history.

On the obverse, his masterpiece depicts Lady Liberty as the embodiment of the nation, advancing with a torch of enlightenment in her right hand and an olive branch of peace in her left. The rising sun's rays grace her back, symbolizing the country’s enduring desire for progress. The inscription "LIBERTY" arcs above.

Discreetly etched on the lower left is the Capitol Building, symbolizing America's enduring commitment to democracy and the Republic, with the mint year elegantly inscribed on the right.

Turning to the reverse, a majestic bald eagle soars against the backdrop of the rising sun, with "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "TWENTY DOLLARS" embellishing the scene above.

A PCGS MS-61 Coin

The PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service is an independent coin grading service that uses the Sheldon Scale as a parameter. The scale ranks coins and other numismatic items from 1 to 70 accordingly. The greater the grade, the better the condition.

An MS coin indicates a coin that retains its Mint State condition, that is, with its original luster intact. Grade 61 indicates the coin presents multiple marks and hairlines, but it still retains its mint luster.
