An iconic show that was way ahead of its time, Star Trek was first aired in 1966. It used the excitement of people who were anticipating a manned moon mission (eventually completed in 1969) and captured the imaginations of the general populace who made sure to be glued to their TV sets when Star Trek aired. The Perth Mint has immortalized scenes and characters from the show that followed the original in 1987 with a series of beautiful Silver coins; it is set 100 years after the original and named – Star Trek: The Next Generation.

The show followed the adventures of a crew assigned to the spaceship called the ‘U.S.S Enterprise’ which was capable of traveling at warp speeds, hence, being able to delve into the far reaches of the universe. It managed to showcase man’s dream of exploring the universe with a great cast and storyline and has since developed a cult following of people who follow and avidly collect anything related to the show.

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise, the Perth Mint has timed the minting of this series of coins with the anticipated release of the new feature film in 2016 – Star Trek Beyond. Featuring memorable colored scenes, characters, and spaceships such as Captain Picard, U.S.S Enterprise, Captain Kirk as well as the unforgettable Captain Spock among others, on the reverse of these coins.

Extremely limited mintages of just over 5,000 of each design ensure that these coins will be snapped up by Star Trek fans and collectors in an instant.

Every coin contains 1 oz of pure 0.999 Silver (Ag) and the imagery of a beloved character or spaceship in full color on the reverse side. Moreover, the obverse features the well-known Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, encircled by her name ‘Queen Elizabeth II,’ the country ‘Tuvalu’ (a small independent island nation located between Hawaii and Australia), the year of issue and the face value ‘1 Dollar.’
