Perth Mint Year of the Dog Silver Coins

7 items

These 2018 Year of the Dog Silver Coins are the 11th release under the acclaimed Lunar Series II collection from Perth Mint, and are available in a variety of weights to accommodate every need.

Designs on the reverse sides of these coins annually change to honor the animal who, in accordance with the Chinese zodiac, influences that year. As 2018 is the Year of the Dog in the Chinese calendar, these coins bear the image of a dog on their reverses.

Perth Mint started the second iteration of the Lunar Series Silver Coin program building on the tremendous success of the first. The first coin under the Lunar Series I program was launched in 1999, while the first coin in the Lunar Series II program was launched in 2008.

Every Lunar Series II up until this point was struck using 0.999 pure silver. These 2018 Year of the Dog Silver Coins are the very first releases under this program to feature 0.9999 pure silver! Furthermore, these coins, like all their predecessors, are assigned legal tender status in Australia – indicating the full backing of the Australian Government.

The reverse sides of every one of these silver coins features an incredible depiction of a German Shepherd dog and its pup. Both dogs have their ears cocked, looking at something or someone intently. The Chinese character for dog is also imprinted on this side, along with the phrase ‘Year of the Dog.’ Perth Mint has credited the artist ‘Ing Ing Jong’ for coming up with this year’s designs.

On the other hand, the obverse sides of these coins bear the famed Ian Rank-Broadley portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II – proudly highlighting the legal tender status of these coins. Her name and the name of the issuing country is imprinted near the rim, surrounding the Queen’s portrayal. Furthermore, the face value of the coin, the year of issue, and the purity and weight of the silver in the coin are also visible on this side.

Choose from a variety of 2018 Year of the Dog Silver Coins to complete your Perth Mint Lunar Series II collections, while also celebrating the Chinese zodiac with a splash of pure silver. Investors can grab the first Lunar Series II coins to contain 0.9999 pure silver to diversify their precious metals portfolios.
