The Design
Augustus Saint-Gaudens was personally selected by President Theodore Roosevelt to renovate American coinage at the beginning of the 20th Century. One of his most renowned creations is, for sure, the Double Eagle coins, which were regularly minted from 1907 to 1932.
On the obverse side, Saint-Gaudens depicted Lady Liberty, representing the feminine embodiment of the United States, advancing forward, clutching a torch in her right hand, symbolizing enlightenment, and an olive branch in her left, symbolizing the nation's enduring quest for peace.
On the reverse side, we observe the rays of the rising sun with the word "LIBERTY" arched above. The Capitol Building is discernible on the lower left, with the mint year inscribed on the right.
The reverse features a majestic bald eagle in flight against the backdrop of the sun. The inscriptions on this side include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "TWENTY DOLLARS." The motto "In God We Trust" is inscribed just above the rising sun.
A NGC MS-64 Coin
The NGC- Numismatic Guaranty Company is an independent coin grading service that uses the Sheldon Scale as a parameter. The scale ranks coins and other numismatic items from 1 to 70 according to their condition. The higher the grade, the better the condition.
An MS coin indicates a coin that retains its Mint State condition, that is, with its original luster intact.
A coin is attributed the Grade 64 when it presents an average or better strike, with minor marks and minor imperfections caused by handling or contact with other objects.
