Buy Canadian Gold Bullion CoinsThe Canadian Gold Maple Lead is one of the most recognizable gold coins in the world today. Featuring the iconic maple leaf on the coin's reverse and a profile image of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, the coin itself has had virtually the same design since its initial introduction in 1979. This coin has precise qualities which remain consistent each year, giving collectors and investors the high quality and intricate designs they demand. It is produced by the Royal Canadian Mint.
From 1979-1981, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf contained .999 fine gold. In 1982, that was improved to .9999 purity and it has remained that way for every version of these gold coins since. You can purchase these coins in different weights and sizes that range from 1/20 ounce to 1 ounce each year, while sometimes larger coins are also made available to the general public. In 1994, 1/15 ounce coins were produced for that year only.
The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is legal tender with a face value of C$50. In some special issues, the purity of the coin has been listed at .99999, making this one of the most sought after gold coins in the world today.
The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Is One of the Earliest Available
When the Gold Maple Leaf was first introduced to the general public, it would be the only bullion coin that was widely available. The Krugerrand was introduced before the Maple Leaf, but because of apartheid in South Africa, many countries were in the midst of an economic boycott and could not purchase that gold coin. This allowed investors the chance to make a tangible investment that was safe from possible consequences.
The consistency of the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is also of note. Although all 24K coins have a certain softness to them which can show handling when improperly managed, the design and consistency of purity makes these gold coins very attractive to collectors and investors. The obverse design has only changed 3 times since the coins introduction and that was simply to create a current profile of Queen Elizabeth. The Maple Leaf has always been on the reverse.
Many of the gold coins offered by the Royal Canadian Mint are in brilliant-uncirculated condition. Unless the description specifically states the gold coin is in proof condition, assume that it is in BU condition.
The Advantages of the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf
For American investors especially, the advantage of choosing the Gold Maple Leaf is that these gold coins can be included into certain IRAs. The reason why the Maple Leaf is permitted for IRA investment is because their weight and purity is guaranteed by the Royal Canadian Mint.
The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is also one of the few gold bullion coins that has incorporated security features into its design. New features were added in 2013 and 2015, including a small Canadian maple leaf on the back added by laser engraving which adds the last two digits of the issuance year to the coin, visible only under magnification. Radial lines were also added to the background of both sides as well.
Special editions are also made available to the general public as a way to enhance the fun and value found in collecting gold coins. For 2016, the Royal Canadian Mint is issued a Roaring Grizzly Coin in the tradition of the Canadian Maple Leaf, featuring .99999 fine gold in the 1 ounce size, one of the few changes to the Maple Leaf design.
Other special editions include the 25th Anniversary coins issued in 2004 with a C$200 face value which featured a wreath with the traditional Maple Leaf. Limited mintage coins in 2005, 2007-2009, 2011-2012, and 2014 feature the Maple Leaf, but moved about 90 degrees to the right. Many of these special editions are packaged with assay cards or are test coins with limited availability to buyers. There is also the 2007 C$1 million coin, of which 5 were made, with a mass of 100kg.
The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf continues to be one of the most sought after gold coins in our industry today. This makes it a wonderful addition to any investment, collection, or even retirement portfolio depending upon your personal needs. Take one of these beautiful coins home and you will be pleased with the quality and purity you receive.
