2024 American Platinum Eagle Design
The obverse is a creation of John Mercanti, an American sculptor and Chief Engraver of the US Mint, until his retirement in 2010. It displays a close-up depiction of the Statue of Liberty’s face. The mint year and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” are next to the face, with the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” below and the word “LIBERTY” arching over the outer rim above.
The reverse shows a bald eagle amid flight with the sun rising in the background. The engravings on this side are the name of the country, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the face value of $100 below, and, on the right side, the coin’s weight and fineness: “.9995 PLATINUM 1 oz.”
The American Eagle Program
The US Mint launched the American Eagle Program in 1986, featuring the American Gold Eagle and the American Silver Eagle. In 1997, they introduced the American Platinum Eagle, and in 2017, the palladium counterpart joined the series.
