The Design
The obverse features the former monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. Her 1998-right-profile portrait is a creation of Ian Rank-Bradley, whose initials are discreetly under it. “SAMOA 2023” is the engraving on the upper rim, and beneath Her Majesty’s effigy, “5 oz Ag 999”, which corresponds to weight metal content, and purity, the Coat of Arms of Samoa, and the denomination of “10 DOLLARS.”
The reverse depicts the Two Towers in detail. A giant ring featured in 24k gold and inscriptions in Elvish, the Elf language created by the author J. R. R. Tolkien, encircles the first tower.
The Black Platinum finish applied to the coin provokes a strong contrast between the surface and the golden color, which comes from the ring plated in 24k gold. And the proof finish applied to the background provides the coin with luster, making each design detail more vivid.
