The Design
As the Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown Dependency, the left-profile bust imprinted on the obverse side of this coin belongs to King Charles III. The inscriptions surrounding the image read: “KING CHARLES III,” “ISLE OF MAN,” and “2023.”
The reverse design corresponds to the one which debuted with the first Noble minted in 1983. It showcases a navigating Viking longship in the sea, encircled by a chain of triskeles, which represent the Coat of Arms of the Isle of Man. The symbol refers to the nation’s Celtic and Viking ascendence.
The coin’s metal content, purity, weight, and denomination are on the bottom and read: “Ag .999 2 OUNCES” and “ONE NOBLE.”
Because they are proof coins, their surfaces receive special treatment so that their blank background exhibits a mirror-like luster. And the Smartminting® Technology imprints the images in Ultra-High Relief, which ensures a better perception of design details.
The Noble Coin
The Isle of Man has issued Noble coins since 1983, but not annually. As they are limited edition, they quickly become rare pieces, attracting avid coin collectors’ attention.
The CIT started producing Noble coins in 2017 through the Isle of Man - Angels & Nobles Collection. The debut design, repeated in 2018, was the Angel of Piedfort. The following edition happened in 2020, displaying the Noble original design with the Viking ship on the reverse side and repeated in 2022 and 2023.
