2023 3 oz H.P. Lovecraft - Azathoth Antique Silver Coin
CIT has immortalized H.P. Lovecraft by making an exclusive silver coin series in his honor. H.P. Lovecraft was a renowned 20th-century American author of gothic tales of horror. He was responsible for the Cthulhu mythos, a cycle of horror tales featuring the most sinister fictional monsters.
Azathoth is the second character of the cycle, standing as the embodiment of chaos, madness, and disorder. And also the motif of the second strike of the H.P. Lovecraft Coin Series.
This coin weighs 3 oz of 99.9 fine silver, minted using the CIT-exclusive Smartminting® Technology in a limited edition of 750 units.

The Design
Because of the Smartminting® Technology, the design is imprinted in ultra-high relief, which produces a 3-D effect and makes the images higher the coin’s border.
The antique finish darkens the surfaces, highlighting the dingy aspect of the engraved figures.
The obverse features the Coat of Arms of Palau on top, with the coin’s face value of “$20” beneath it.
Lovecraft’s portrait is in the background, overlapped by his monster’s tentacles that cover the whole surface. There is a reference to the author at the bottom: “H.P. LOVECRAFT 1890 1937,” referring to this lifetime.
The reverse showcases a terrifying depiction of Azathoth in high relief as a massive body of tentacles, several eyes, and a huge mouth with sharp teeth.
The only engraving on this side is at the bottom rim and refers to the coin’s issuance “2023.”
