The Design
The obverse features Queen Elizabeth II, in a frontal close up. Classically dressed with one of her glorious crowns, the image carries the series name arching over H.M.”s effigy, through “IN MEMENORIAM QUEEN ELIZABETH II”, birth and death dates on the right: “21st April 1926” and “8th September 2022”.
The reverse displays another depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. It is a right-profile bust, created by Ian Rank-Broadley. His initials are discreetly engraved beneath her neck. Along with the image, read: “ELIZABETH II,” “COOK ISLANDS” and “5 DOLLARS.”
The mirror-like luster from the proof finish applied to the coin’s surfaces highlights the design details, providing the coin with a special bright luster.
