Gold Libertads are renowned for their beautiful designs, quality striking, and extremely limited mintages. As a result, collectors have flocked to this program to secure their coins very quickly upon release from the Bank of Mexico. With a high level of collectibility and a low population, premiums in the secondary market of prior year issues generally rise significantly.
Each of these coins is struck using 1 troy ounce of 0.999 pure gold and is backed by the Banco de Mexico (National Bank of Mexico). Worldwide limited mintage for this coin is just 2,050 coins.
The obverse sides features a sculptural relief of the National Shield of Mexico. This portrayal is surrounded by all the National Coats of Arms used by Mexico throughout history.
The reverses display a brilliant rendition of Winged Victory -- a famous monument that serves as a reminder of the Mexican struggle for independence. The backdrop of this design showcases the two famous volcanoes in Mexico, Iztaccihuatl and Popocatépetl.
The Mexican Mint is the oldest operational mint in the Americas. Established in 1535 by the Spanish, this mint has served the region for centuries and still does to this day. The Libertad was first struck in 1982 with designs borrowed from the famed Centenario gold coin that was circulated between 1921 annd 1947.
