The new Silver Shield disOBEY series pays tribute to the masters of non violent, non compliance throughout the ages.

Perhaps the single greatest activist using non violent, non compliance is Mahatma Gandhi. Through his tireless education and persistence he sought to free 330 million Indians from the grips of the 100,000 British invaders from the largest Empire ever.

When Gandhi was a young man, he sought to work within the British system as a lawyer promoting Indian justice to the racist and oppressive British governance. After many years of trying to work within the system he saw that true power for change always came from outside the rigged game and inside the highest individual actions.

He was mocked, arrested, beaten and betrayed and yet he persisted in the moral principals over violent reaction. On a conscious level, he promoted conscious individual solutions to the unconscious collective problems the Indian people faced. He knew violence was born out of unconscious behavior and would gladly be met by the British occupiers. Instead he focused the Indian people to see that all the power was within them. They simply had to not support a system that was rigged against them.

Like a light shinning in the darkness, what becomes conscious can no longer be unconsciously done. This brought about a divine certainty of seeing the big picture and know that you simply must stay true to what is right and you will win.
