2015-W NGC MS-70 First Releases 1 oz American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin
The American Liberty is the first high-relief gold coin struck by the US Mint. It is a 99.99% pure gold coin, holding the highest face value of USD 100.
The design stamped on American Liberty Gold Coins was created by US Mint Artistic Infusion Program members, which granted Lady Liberty and the Bald Eagle unprecedented portrayals, enhanced by the coin’s 3-D effect.
These coins, in particular, were purchased from the US Mint during the first 30 of public availability and carry the “W” mint mark, identifying the West Point branch as the mint that issued them.
Today, you can purchase, at SD Bullion, 2015-W American Liberty High Relief Gold Coins, sealed in NGC slabs and certified as MS-70 First Release coins.

The Design
The obverse, designed by Justin Kunz, showcases a young Lady Liberty wearing a wreath crown and holding a torch in one hand and the American flag on a pole in the other. The word “LIBERTY” arches over the image, the year of issuance is on the lower left, and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” is at the bottom.
On the reverse, the Bald Eagle, created by Paul C. Balan, flies with an olive branch on its talons. The image also includes the inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” on top, the “W” mint mark from West Point on the left, the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and the coin’s information regarding weight, purity, metal content, and face value which read “1 OZ .9999 FINE GOLD,” and “ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS.”
Because of the high relief, the images imprinted present depth and height, as the design elements surpass the coin’s edges.
An NGC MS-70 First Releases Coin
NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company appraises and grades coins independently from sovereign mints. It uses the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
According to the NGC, a “First Release” coin corresponds to one purchased from the US Mint during the first 30 of public availability.
MS abbreviates for Mint State and refers to coins crafted in the same format as a circulation coin that has never circulated. 70 is the highest grade, awarded to coins that do not present visible flaws.
